Ted is a true professional guide. He grew up near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was a fishing addict from the start. As an eager young explorer, Ted spent countless days fishing Pennsylvania’s spring creeks, rivers, and lakes. No water was safe from exploration. If it swam, Ted figured out how to catch it. Never enjoying boundaries, he headed west to spend time on the waters that he had read and dreamed about in his youth.
Ted started guiding clients in 2003, and many of those clients are thankful for what they refer to as the “trip of a lifetime!” He has guided fly fishing in Montana, Colorado, and Wyoming, while developing a clientele that refuses to fish with anyone else.
Ted is a dedicated instructor, an expert oarsman, and he knows more backcountry secret spots than anyone. Along with his dedication to his craft and client safety, Ted is also a whitewater rescue instructor and a technical rope rescue instructor. He is and has been a leader in the backcountry floating, fishing, and walk/wade programs at Spotted Bear Ranch.
Ted’s hobbies include photography, sailing, climbing, hunting, whitewater rafting, and of course lots of fly fishing.
Whether hiking, floating in a drift boat or raft, or going deep into the Bob Marshall Wilderness on horseback, Ted is an expert. A day spent with Ted Petersen is an investment in your outdoor experience.
